Set between rugged mountains, Makkah is glittered with quaint mosques and minarettes that are graced by thousands of pilgrims. At the heart of the city is Masjid al-Haram - the largest mosque in the world. The area around the mosque comprises the old city. The main avenues are Al-Mudda'ah and Sûq al-Layl to the north of the mosque, and As-Sûg Assaghûr to the south.
